So you've been in a car accident.. Now what?
You may feel fine. The first step is to makes sure that you are okay and go get checked by the ER. Most auto injuries will rear their ugly head right away. Seemingly less intense collisions can take months before symptoms start to show up.
What happens to the brain in a Motor Vehicle Collision?
Your brain is suspended in fluid like a peach suspended in a glass bottle part way filled with water. If you throw the glass bottle at a car door, what do you think happens to the peach? It becomes bruised. The same can happen to our brain, except that the human brain will swell. What happens if the brain swells, beyond it's container (your skull)? Not such great things.
So I bumped my head. NBD.
You have a map of your body on both sides of the front part of your brain (i.e. frontal cortex - the area where you make decisions about what to eat for breakfast). If that area swells, it can make that part of the map become blurry. This in turn makes the map of your body blurry and this is how we start to see injuries take shape long term.
I don't have a concussion. Am I good?
Say you are rear-ended. Your head and neck (and back) are going to jolt strongly forward and back. This can tear various ligaments, muscles, nerves, etc. Those tissues are going to need some help healing the correct way so they do not form scar tissue & instability down the road.
I've been to multiple chiropractors before for other injuries and was always treated the same no matter what the injury was, but Dr. Krystal seems to customize and works on only the troubled areas that were bothering me. Everything seems very calculated and precise. I feel very comfortable and confident having her treat me and plan to keep coming for upkeep even after my auto accident claim. Keep up the good work!
